Following Intuition

We have a beautiful botanical garden in town. During the late fall through early spring, the weather is cool enough to visit. Every time we visit, I take pictures of the flowers. They are magnificent, but I never paint them.

Lately, the longing to paint something a little more representational has taken over my imagination. I begin on paper, lay down backgrounds, and then it morphs into abstract flowers. It seems wrong to say it feels easy. Instead, I’ll say it’s the flow state. I don’t care if it looks bad. There is no pressure to make a masterpiece. The painting comes together and the end result brings a smile to my face. At the end of the day, isn’t that the goal?
