Afternoons are for Art

Making Art is time-consuming in the best way. Hours pass when you enter the flow state, and the brain quiets for those precious moments.

However, the quiet is shattered if the nagging to-do list plays on repeat with every brush stroke. Responsibility gets in the way of creativity.

When trying to find a routine that included art, teaching the kids, and doing daily tasks, I kept reading that mornings were the best time for making art. It’s the best time to do everything.

Trying to fit every responsibility and art into the morning hours was not working. It was frustrating trying to follow the tried and true schedule of other artists.

I’m not a morning person. No matter when I wake up, my body and brain don’t kick in gear until mid-morning. Following the advice of other artists wasn’t working for me.

So, I devised a plan to try. Throw out what other people say will work, and try my way. Mornings are for daily tasks, teaching my children, and exercising.

Afternoons are for art.

The to-do list doesn’t nag or bother me because it’s checked off. If I don’t complete a task, it gets moved to the next morning. This has given my brain the break it needs and my sanity a boost.

If you have a schedule that isn’t working for you, change it. You don’t have to follow all the steps of successful people who have gone before you. You can find what works for you.
